Staiman Recycling Corporation's goal is to be a responsible steward of the environment by ensuring our recycling operations meet all national standards. Staiman Recycling yards and facilities are regulated by both internally and externally by industry regulators and professionals
In addition to Staiman Recycling's strict internal environmental compliance practices and regulations, Staiman Recycling complies with OSHA standards and each institution is staffed with a full-time Safety Manager. Staiman Recycling Corporation locations are fully permitted and compliant where required, by the state DEP and Federal EPA.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO OUR CUSTOMERS
Affirming our support of and compliance with Federal and State environmental and hazardous substance regulations and employee
"right to know" laws, Staiman Recycling - Hepburn Street Facility and Hanover Facility WILL NOT ACCEPT THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
- Closed containers of any type.
- Cylinders that contain pressurized gases must be cut open for inspection or have the valve stems removed.
- Drums, barrels or tanks that have not been thoroughly cleaned, rinsed and opened so as to render them incapapble
of containing hazardous substances. - Beer kegs
- Cans and/or any other containers suspected of containing liquid, powder, gases, fumes, etc., that may be
considered hazardous or potentially hazardous. - Metallic scrap contaminated with harardous substances or hazardous materials
- Metal materials with significant non-metal materials loosely associated (not an incorporated part of the recyclable metal material).
- Examples include: glass, plastic, concrete, bricks, soil, rubber, wood, etc.
- Any PCB-containing or PCB-contaiminated equipment, piping, storage vessels, or other materials such as the following:
- Microwave Ovens
- Air Conditioners
- All fluorescent fixtures unless ballasts, bulbs and mercury switches have been removed.
- Transformers of any type without documentation that they are empty and do not contain PCB's.
- Copiers
- Compressors, unless removed from appliances
- Liquids or fluids, except for batteries that are in good condition.
- Cracked or leaking batteries
- Nickel-cadmium batteries
- Switches containing liquid mercury or other equipment containing liquid mercury
- Equipment containing pressurized refrigerant gases such as CFC's or HCFC's
- Radioactive materials or radioactively contaminated materials
- Asbestos or asbestos containing materials such as pipe or I-Beam inulation, brake shoes or pads, tiles, packing material and debris
- Insulation (especially, potential asbestos-containing) in commercial freezer units or pipes and boilers
- Military scrap (i.e., projectiles, shell casings, etc.) that is not de-activated and certified.
- Hospital/Medical scrap unless written certification indicates that this material is free of radioactive material
- Residual waste as defined in the Pennsylvania Residual Waste Regulations.
- Hazardous waste as defined in the Pennsylvania Hazardous Waste Regulations.
- Consumer electronics ( e.g., computers, monitors, televisions
